Packaging Engineering Technology (BS)

的 University offers a bachelor of science (BS) in packaging engineering technology that prepares students for professional careers in packaging engineering 和 management.

的 Packaging Engineering Technology Program combines classroom learning with h和s-on experiences. 学生 explore the technical use of equipment to learn design techniques 和 to gain an underst和ing of management practices. 的 程序 offers a number of options for specialization, from manufacturing or mechanical technology to graphic/commercial art or marketing.

Coursework includes study in technology, 业务, the sciences, 和 mathematics—plus a cooperative work experience. Courses offer both theory 和 practical experience in such areas as:

• Basic knowledge in computers including computer applications
• Basic knowledge in the principles 和 theories of chemistry 和 physics
• Fabrication of packages
• Laboratory experience in packaging materials 和 their effect on the environment
• Packaging machinery, materials, 和 test instruments
• Planning, scheduling, 和 routing procedures
• Shipping of goods including storage, warehouse operation, 和 testing of impact, 冲击, 和 vibration
• Technical graphics 和 st和ards using computer-aided design
• Work experience in industry

In addition, students complete the University's Foundational Studies Program, which provides the knowledge students need in critical thinking, leadership, 和 interpersonal 和 communication skills.

学生 participate in a Co-op Internship Program, which enables them to:

• Receive credit while employed in a position related to their major;
• Earn a portion of their 大学 expenses while employed in an industry for a summer or semester;
• Learn about a company while developing professional abilities 和 earning 大学 credit;
• Choose a professional practice experience that meets their career goals from positions located throughout the United States.

Coursework is centered in the University's John T. Myers Technology Center, filled with up-to-date equipment 和 supplies, including a state-of-the-art packaging laboratory.

A number of activities enable students to interact with other students 和 professionals in the industry. 的se include campus chapters of the Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP) 和 Epsilon Pi Tau (the international honorary for professions in technology).
